FURRY OBJECTS | MAGNHILD DISINGTON

These phones and USB keys are made from the leftover fur material that would otherwise be discarded, minimizing waste. At the same time, covering a USB key in a pouf of fur adds instant longevity—it becomes practically non-disposable. (FMP)

Danish textile designer Magnhild Disington has stepped into some dangerous territory with Furry Objects, combining two controversial product types: fur, for ethical reasons, and portable electronics, for the increasing amount of electronic waste produced each year. Strangely enough, she manages to turn two material excesses into something less so, creating a set of strange electronic objects that ask some interesting questions. (FMP)

Portable electronics are often neutral in appearance and lack emotional appeal. They have become a more pervasive part of our lifestyle and are things we carry with us most of the time. People tend not to feel any connection with them and change them gladly as soon as something better and newer is on the market; there is an abnormal refreshment rate for these types of product. Do we really need a new phone every six months? It is my belief that the values within our digital interactions outweigh the value of the electronic devices we use to make them....For the collection of USB keys (flash drives) I have applied natural materials like wood, leather and fur. These materials provide unique character and sensory experiences which create emotional value within the physical product. This creates a more balanced connection between 'content of desire' (our files and interactions) and 'object of desire' (our electronic devices). - Disington

MILESTONE 1941 | OMEGA

The Omega Museum Collection has just seen its ninth release with the Milestone 1941.

The Milestone 1941 (a limited edition of 1,941 pieces) is based on a line of watch originally popular among military officers that was launched in 1938. The 18k white gold case comes in at a discreet 38mm and features one of those lovely pre-standardization lug types. The dial is kitted out with Super Luminova lume, and the movement has been upgraded to a modern-day cal 3203 featuring Omega’s trademark co-axial escapement. - JamesList

LES ATELIERS X SPONGE BOB | PAVILLON HELMET

This is by far one of the most radical design put out by Les Ateliers Ruby which celebrates the American pop culture icon Sponge Bob for his 10 year anniversary. The face of Sponge Bob transcends nicely onto the helmet which would definitely attract attention and probably provide some laughs for the motorists behind the wearer as Sponge Bob is looking directly behind with his signature smile. There are only 200 of these limited versions made in XS to XXL sizes. (via freshness)

L.A. GANG TOURS

L.A. Times - A group of civic activists is preparing to offer bus tours of some of the grittiest pockets of the city, with profits funneled back into the community. Some of the particulars are raising eyebrows.

"After a VIP preview last weekend, L.A. Gang Tours expects to open to the public in January, giving tourists a look at the cradle of the nation's gang culture -- the birthplace of many of the city's gangs, including Crips and Bloods, Florencia 13 and 18th Street."

"The nonprofit group plans to offer two-hour tours at an initial cost of $65 per adult, with profits funneled back into the community through jobs, "franchised" tours in new areas and micro-loans to inner-city entrepreneurs. Early routes will focus largely on South L.A., with forays through Watts and Florence-Firestone."

8 HOT FEMALE CELEBRITIES THAT PLAY WORLD OF WARCRAFT

This is awesome. CelebrityOdor has released an article identifying 8 HOT Female Celebrities that play World of Warcraft (WOW). The list includes such celebs as Kate Beckinsale (above), Pornstar Jenna Jameson, Mila Kunis (below), Pending Nobel Peace Prize Winner Jessica Simpson, & the always lovable Cameron Diaz.

I will admit that I AM somewhat of a gamer, however I never got into the whole Warcraft craze; mostly because I knew the simple mention of such a hobby would be a successful female deterrent.

Let's face it people, gaming is no trend. Our generation was raised on video games and it's now evolved to be a part of our lifestyles.

Other familiar names include, Actress Felicia Day, Pornstar Mia Rose, & Top Model winner Adrianne Curry.

Gentlemen Of Bakongo: The African Dandies

"In photographer Daniele Tamagni new photo book, he explores the phenomenon of the African sapeurs, a clique of extraordinarily dressed dandies from the Congo. In the midst of war and abject poverty, these men dress in tailored suits, silk ties, and immaculate footwear. Sapeur comes from la SAPE, short for Société des Ambianceurs et des Personnes Élégantes, or the Society of Tastemakers and Elegant People. The SAPE, like any club, has rules of conduct and of dress; it’s centered around Brazzaville and Kinshasa, the adjacent capitals of the Republic of Congo and the Democratic Republic of Congo, respectively." They dress themselves in designer brands of suits and accessories are of the utmost importance to Sapeurs – Pierre Cardin, Roberto Cavalli, Dior, Fendi, Gaultier, Gucci, Issey Miyake, Prada, Yves Saint Laurent, Versace, Yohji Yamamoto are their patron saints.

This is truly remarkable and interesting group of men. What makes it even more interesting is that most of these men can barely afford food, often sleep on the floor of relatives homes as the average yearly income in the Congo is less than $100 a year.
